Comsat Architects has been selected to receive Phase I funding through the United States Air Force Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. This funding will support the identification of high data rate communication services provided by emerging NGSO satellite constellations to demonstrate feasibility for use on United States Air Force unmanned and manned vehicle applications. Through this work, the United States Air Force seeks to take advantage of new and emerging non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellite communications constellations and to help condense the time between deployment of NGSO constellations and their operational use by the Air Force.

Comsat Architects was established in 2014 in Rocky River, Ohio, under Blue Cranium LLC, to provide engineering services and products to enable the evolution of the next generation of satellite communications in the civil, defense, and commercial sectors. Comsat Architects is engaged with the NASA Glenn Research Center Space Communication office to provide system engineering services, develop advanced software, and perform technology research. Under an Ohio Federal Research Network grant, Comsat Architects is developing deep machine learning technologies for communication channels for NASA and Air Force applications.

The United States Air Force SBIR program is highly competitive and encourages small businesses to engage in research and development of products that have the potential for commercialization. These programs are designed to stimulate technology research by small businesses while providing the government with cost-effective technical and scientific solutions to challenging problems.
